Max Wilson

Max Wilson is a carpenter and furniture designer based in Los Angeles, California. In 2014, he founded the studio Max Wilson Millworks, which he operates to this day. His studio specializes in custom furniture, doors, and built-in cabinetry.

Wilson describes himself as a lifelong tinkerer and builder. In 2012, he began focusing seriously on woodworking by apprenticing with the late Chris Hollis, a widely-respected carpenter in Denver, Colorado. Alongside Hollis, he helped restore parts of the Denver Capitol Building. He eventually relocated to Los Angeles, where he became the shop manager at Ross Alan Reclaimed Lumber prior to establishing his own practice. It was there he developed an appreciation for working with reclaimed wood, which persists in his work today.

Wilson employs traditional joinery techniques to produce heirloom-quality work. He incorporates contemporary trends into a design philosophy that prioritizes timeless simplicity and functionality. In addition to his commissions at Max Wilson Millworks, he serves as an instructor at Allied Woodshop.
