Reticello is a multi-step process of glass making. Glass canes are laid flat against each other on a metal plate and heated to a melting point. They are adhered to molten glass, then rotated. The glass is then marvered and blown into its desired shape. As the canes turn, they create a pattern in one direction on the surface of the glass. The same process is then repeated with another layer of canes encasing the first layer. The second layer of canes are rotated in the opposite direction, resulting in intersecting lines with tiny air bubles that create a criss-crossing, netted pattern.
